Sausage Puffs
These savoury sausage puffs are filled with delicious Italian sausage and baked inside golden, flaky puff pastry. They're easy to prepare and make a great appetizer for holidays, parties and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet of gluten free puff pastry, thawed
- 3 Italian sausages, mild, hot or sweet
- Unsalted butter, softened, for greasing
- Dried parsley flakes, for garnish
- Your favourite gluten free dipping sauce, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the muffin pan. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a muffin pan with softened unsalted butter.
- Prepare the puff pastry. Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a clean surface. Using a sharp knife, cut into approximately 2½ inch squares. Gently press each square into a muffin cup, shaping the pastry along the bottom and sides. Leave the corners sticking up to create a decorative shape when baked.
- Prepare the sausage. Remove the casings from the Italian sausages. You can use mild, hot or sweet sausage depending on your preference.
- Cook the sausage. In a frying pan over medium heat, cook the sausage meat until fully browned and cooked through. Break the meat into small pieces as it cooks to avoid large clumps. Drain any excess grease.
- Fill the pastry. Spoon approximately 1 to 1½ teaspoons of cooked sausage meat into each prepared pastry cup.
- Bake. Place the muffin pan in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- Garnish and serve. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Sprinkle with dried parsley flakes and serve warm with your favourite dipping sauce.
Nonna's Tip
Try using sweet Italian sausage for a milder flavour or hot Italian sausage if you prefer something with a bit of spice. Serve with your favourite dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavour!
